Umut Gürbüz, Asunim founding partner, took part in the special session of GENSED, attended by more than 200 participants on the 2nd day of the 12th International Energy Congress and Fair.

In the session, Mr. Gürbüz emphasized the importance of SPP in industrial roofs and how to make quality and correct EPCs on roofs. “Rooftop solar systems require experience, are more difficult than ground mounted solar systems in many areas, especially in design and installation. As a company with extensive international experience in the field of rooftop solar systems, we offer tailor-made solutions for roofs of all types and challenges.”

Mr. Gürbüz also said, “With the recent increase in electricity prices, the costs of photovoltaic systems decreased. Thus, industrialists reached the point of producing for self consumption at very attractive prices. The industrialist can install a solar power plant on the roof of the plant and reduce its monthly consumption from monthly production, and if the monthly production is too high, it can generate additional income by selling this excess electricity to the grid.”

Mr. Gürbüz talked about the standards that must be followed in the whole process from design to installation, testing and maintenance of photovoltaic systems, he also mentioned occupational health and safety issues.

THE IMPACT OF STRANDED INVESTMENTS

Coal-fired power generation in much of the world in the very near future will be a stranded investment, but we also have to start thinking about gas-fired power being stranded in the not too distant future, which will in turn strand a lot of infrastructure, such as gas pipelines and coal logistics.

ASUNIM CONCLUDES TWO LICENSED PROJECTS – PROVISIONAL ACCEPTANCE COMPLETED

Asunim Turkey connects 24MWp licensed systems for Akfen Renewable Energy.

After major references in industrial solar rooftop and utility scale PV systems and the successful commissioning of two previous licensed systems (8MWn and 9MWn), Asunim is now the top EPC runner on licensed systems in Turkey. With the provisional acceptance of two 10MWn (24MWp) licensed systems owned by AKFEN Renewable Energy in Konya, Ereğli, Asunim has now taken a top position with an EPC track record of 37MWn licensed systems installed in 2018 alone.

From the beginning of the project, UL, TÜV and  ARUP – All independent Auditing Firms, supervised the projects 3 on behalf of International Finance Cooperation (IFC) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD). All project design and engineering services were provided by Asunim’s experienced in-house European Engineering Department including supervision during system implementation.

“We lead the Licensed Solar Power Plants Segment”

Umut Gürbüz, Founding Manager of Asunim Turkey, stated that “We already lead on rooftop solar power plant projects and in addition to that, we have constructed and commissioned 4 of the ten existing licensed solar power plants in Turkey which makes us the leading Turkish company on licensed projects”.

Mr. Gürbüz also mentioned “Among others, there were ample criteria under the topics engineering, finance, health and safety and environmental impact and we accomplished full performance under all of them. The project was successfully executed with the participation of several international consultants, IFC and EBRD partnership and ownership of Akfen Renewable Energy and we would like to thank all involved for their participation and trust in Asunim. We used the best and most reliable products available in the market by providing the most sophisticated engineering and operation services and the project is concluded in full compliance with European standards. We are also very proud that we finished this high-quality project on time and on budget.”

The Solar Power Plants are divided in two projects with 12 MWp each. Throughout 25 years of operation, they will generate approximately 1TWh of electricity and avoid the emission of 0.6 million tons of CO2. These systems were built on 362.000sqm land and from start to finish concluded in 6 months. Made in Turkey Phono Solar Panels, ABB Inverters and Stäubli anti rodent cables were among the main components on this project. Operation and Maintenance Services will be covered by Maxima Energy that already manages a growing portfolio above 200 MW. Maxima is a separate O&M company of Asunim that was set up to manage long-term O&M responsibilities and provide services for Solar power plants built by 3rd parties. Maxima also secured the operation and maintenance of the 154KV substation that integrates these two licensed solar power plants with the national grid.

ASUNIM SUCCESSFULLY CONNECTS 9MW LICENSED SYSTEM FOR YBT ENERGY IN HAMAL, TURKEY

With the 10.9MWp System presented here, Asunim Turkey has now completed the second licensed Solar Power Plant. Another two licenses are currently still under construction and scheduled for connection in September which will then total 37MW total nominal licensed system capacity installed by Asunim. This means that Asunim currently ranks first among its competitors at construction of licenced solar power plants (SPPs).

Umut Gurbuz, General Manager of Asunim Turkey stated that, as we started the mobilization process in January, the weather and conditions were tough but the system was finalized successfully on budget and on time. Because of the rocky soil, drill and excavation works were excessive. As in all our other projects, we use the leading manufacturer’s products, and implement the systems with constant supervision by our excellent engineering and construction department. We also owe a debt of gratitude to the investors who put their trust in us.

The operation and maintenance of YBT Energys system will be covered by Maxima Energy, the separate O&M company of Asunim Turkey.

Founder of YBT Energy, Yusuf Bahadır Turhan indicated; we worked hard in order to develop this project and all the process like pre-feasibility analysis, pre-license apply, EPC tender and contract and loan contract. Overall this process lasted eight years and we all feel extremely delighted to see the project is done. With this SPP, we now own a 30 MW Renewable Energy portfolio that generates carbon-neutral electricty for Turkey.

Watch a footage of the construction process here.

About YBT Enerji:

YBT Enerji, based in Ankara, Turkey, is an energy investment company, which develops and realises renewable energy-based power plants. Company currently operates 3 run-of-the-river HEPPs and 2 unlicensed SPPs in different cities of Turkey. All projects were developed from green-field to operation by the company itself, like the new 10.9 MWp Hamal solar power plant in Kangal, Sivas. YBT dedicates itself to clean and sustainable environment and continues to develop new projects in hydro, solar, wind and biomass. The company also is an actor in the energy market with its shares of Energy Markets Operating Company (EPİAŞ in Turkish).

SOLAREX INTERVIEW WITH DIRECTOR OF ASUNIM GROUP

06028A_Interview_Asunim_jg

Press highlights

"These are Asunim’s largest projects in Turkey to date, though the company is already known for its large-scale projects, including the 9.1 MWh Solange solar plant, which it commissioned together with Phoenix Solar late in 2016."
"Once these two projects are completed and connected to the grid in the summer of 2017, electricity generated by the plants will average around 56 GWh annually – cutting down on an estimated 40,000 annual tonnes of CO2 emissions."
"Despite the difficult terrain conditions the project was executed after a construction time of only four months."
